Privacy Policy (English)

1. Summary

ProofNote is designed so that your data never leaves your device. We, the developer, do not collect, store, receive, or share any of your personal information. There is no account, no server, no analytics, and no advertising.

2. Information we collect

None. The app has no sign-up or account, and it does not send usage data, analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, or location to us or to anyone else. If you turn on Apple’s “Share With App Developers” setting on your device, Apple may share crash and usage diagnostics with us under Apple’s own privacy policy; these never contain your notes.

3. Data stored on your device

Your notes, titles, tags, and expiry times are encrypted and stored only on this device. The keys that decrypt notes are kept in the iOS Keychain, bound to this device, and can only be used after Face ID or Touch ID. A separate on-device key protects only note identifiers and expiry times so that expired notes can be removed. Notes are excluded from iCloud and computer backups and are never synced to a cloud.

4. App settings

Settings such as language, appearance, and new-note defaults, and a record of which detection model runs fast enough on this device, are stored on this device. They contain no note content. Like other app settings, they may be included in the device backup you make with Apple; we never receive them.

5. Camera

The camera is used only while a Level 2 or 3 note is open and while scanning a QR code during a transfer. While a note is open, the app counts the faces in front of the screen and, at Level 3, also looks for camera devices. To judge whether someone could read the screen, it briefly estimates how far away each face is and which way it is turned, whether a face is flat like a photo, and how bright the scene is. It does not recognize or identify anyone. Images and face data are analyzed in memory on this device and discarded immediately. Video is never recorded, saved, or sent.

6. Face ID and Touch ID

Biometric authentication is performed by iOS. The app only learns whether authentication succeeded and never receives your face or fingerprint data.

7. Keyboard, dictation, and clipboard

Third-party keyboards are turned off in the app, and keyboard learning and suggestions are disabled for note text. If you use Apple’s dictation, Apple processes your voice under its own privacy policy. Text you copy from a Level 1 or 2 note stays on this device’s clipboard for up to 60 seconds and is cleared when the app locks or goes to the background; other apps on this device can paste it during that time. Copying is blocked at Level 3.

8. Transfers between devices

When you choose to send a note, it goes directly to a nearby device that you pair with by scanning each other’s QR codes, over the local network or a direct Wi-Fi connection. The note is encrypted end to end. No server or third party is involved, and we cannot see or recover transferred notes. Only send notes to devices you trust.

9. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell, rent, share, or entrust your information to anyone, because we never have it. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code.

10. Retention and deletion

Your data exists only on this device for as long as you keep it. You can destroy a note or all notes at any time. An expired note can no longer be opened and is destroyed the next time the app runs. Destroying a note erases its encryption keys so it cannot be recovered. Deleting the app removes its notes; iOS may keep the app’s encryption keys in the Keychain, but they cannot decrypt anything once the notes are gone. If you turn off the device passcode, remove all biometric enrollments, or lose or reset the device, your notes can no longer be opened, and we cannot recover them.

11. Security

Each note is encrypted with its own keys (AES-GCM). Keys never leave this device, and note keys require a device passcode and biometric authentication. When the app is in the background, notes are closed and hidden from the app switcher, and they are not shown while the screen is being recorded or mirrored.

12. Children

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

13. Your rights

Because we hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete. All of your data stays under your control on your device, where you can view, change, or destroy it at any time.

14. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be shown in the app with a new effective date.

15. Purposes, categories, and retention

ProofNote does not process personal information. There are therefore no processing purposes, categories of data, retention periods, third-party disclosures, processors, or international transfers to describe. Everything you write in the app is stored only on your device and is never sent to the developer.
